Evie’s Story

As told by her mother

Ever since she was born, Evie has done things her own way. 

Early on, we noticed she reached milestones differently than other kids. Over time, we learned that some delays just come with the way her body and mind grow.

Evie has always been my happy, sunshine girl, but when she was three, I started noticing anxiety. That’s when we bagan to see her “superpower” which is her unique way of experiencing the world. Since then, we’ve spent countless days in therapies, learning skills that come naturally to other kids.

We discovered accommodations to help her sensory needs and even chose to homeschool so she could grow at her own pace, without worrying about trying to be like everyone else.

But sometimes, she just wants to be like everyone else. She wants to see other kids with sound-reducing headphones, who stim, or who feel overwhelmed in crowds…kids who share her way of experiencing joy. She just wanted to belong.

That’s where A Kid Again has changed everything.

We’ve been to two events so far, and both were life-changing. Evie could participate in every activity because accommodations were built in. She played alongside her sister in big crowds without feeling overwhelmed. And most importantly, she saw a room full of incredible kids who also have their own superpowers. 

I’ll never forget the grin on her face when she turned to me and said, “Mama, they are all like me!”

For those few hours, Evie got to be a kid…laughing, playing, and feeling completely seen.
