Thank you for joining us as an A Kid Again Volunteer! You’re about to embark on one of the most exciting Adventures of your life as you join the growing number of people who want to help families raising a child with a life-threatening condition feel like A Kid Again! Please take a moment to review our Volunteer Manual and Policies & Guidelines. We want your experience with us to be safe and enjoyable!
Our Families
The families and children we serve come from diverse backgrounds. The appearances of the children will vary depending on the treatment they are receiving. Out of respect for the families, feel free to listen, but please do not discuss medical circumstances with them. We cannot give medical advice.
Common Appearances
Wheelchair | Nurse’s Aide | Ventilator | Feeding tube | Wearing a helmet | Developmental delays such as in speech, physical body growth, etc. | Suppressed immune systems (Wearing a face mask) | Weight issues | Baldness | Visible or non-visible catheter
Diversity
Along with diverse conditions, we serve families of all races, ethnicities and social statuses. Some cultures may be different from others and what may be a normal custom for you could offend someone else.
Learning about volunteer opportunities
Program team members will send communication about upcoming opportunities.
How you sign up!
Open volunteer opportunities can be found directly on our volunteer site, called Volunteer Hub.
I’ve signed up… Now what?
After you have registered to volunteer for an Adventure/Event, you will receive details by email about a week before with information for the event.
Greeter & Registration
Be the first interaction a family has with us! Welcome families at Adventures and direct them as needed, check-in families/guests, or distribute tickets and information.
Food & Beverage Assistance
Families often have multiple children and carrying everyone’s meals, drinks, etc. is often challenging. If a meal is provided, volunteers will be there to assist our families.
Photography & Social Media Support
Help us capture and share photos of our families and guests. We have an active social media presence and are always looking for volunteers help keep our pages active during events.
Learn Basic Sign Language
Did you know nearly 25% of our families have a child who is non-verbal? Some of our children utilize American Sign Language to communicate. Consider learning a few signs to communicate.
